Robin got in touch with Nico about expanding his gravel patio onto this area where the grass struggled to grow. We would have to make it look like it had always been there by using reclaimed railway sleepers and the exact same gravel as the existing patio.

1.

We had to start by digging some good foundations for our sleepers making sure we were leveling the area.

2.

Prepare our sub-base on top of a landscape fabric to stop weeds from growing and compact it as much as possible using a “Wacker” plate.

3.

Lay our new gravel on top, making sure we are nicely levelled all around. We have to use the exact quantity of gravel, not enough and the sub-base will keep showing, too much and it becomes hard to walk on the gravels without sinking in.
