This retaining, field wall was a crumbling, hazardous mess, which would have continued to take up grazing and had lost its main purpose.

A conservation project, for one of the old and traditional retaining walls of the region. Vital for the solid enclosure of the livestock and for contributing to safeguarding the heritage of the region.

What we’ve accomplished:

1.

Dismantled some 40 m3 spread over 8 metres of crumbling, retaining field wall, using a tractor and good old, manual labour, to clear and prepare the area.

2.

Cleaned and sorted all of the stones for the rebuild, along with re-sizing as necessary.

3.

Rebuilt the wall over a period of several (winter) months, in order for it to effectively retain the field step and be functional again.
